2010 Honors Online Scholarship Application (HOSA) General Information

Welcome to the Honors Online Scholarship application (HOSA). We are very pleased that you are applying for these prestigious scholarships at The Ohio State University.

In order to be considered for one of these scholarships you must complete and submit the application by Monday, February 1, 2010 at 11:59 P.M. EST. To complete the HOSA you will need your OSU ID, which you receive after you apply to the university. You should allow one week for receipt of this ID via email after submitting your admissions application.

Consideration for these scholarships is contingent upon admission to The Ohio State University. Please review the checklist and three scholarship descriptions below before completing this application and writing your essays. You should note that the criteria for each scholarship are different.

After reviewing all HOSA applications, 45 to 50 applicants will be named as finalists for these scholarships. Finalists will be invited to attend our Interview Weekend scheduled for Sunday and Monday, March 7 and 8, 2010. Invitations to the finalists will be extended by the end of February. Following this weekend, 10 individuals will be named Ohio State University Presidential Scholars. We will also name our Battelle and Glenna R. Joyce Scholars at that time (the number of awards for these two scholarships varies each year).

You will need to complete the following steps before submitting your application.


1. Apply to the Ohio State University Apply for admission!
We will not review the HOSA until you are admitted to the university. You will not be able to complete this application without your OSU ID password which are issued via email after you apply to the university. To apply visit http://apply.osu.edu


2. Confirm eligibility
Please review the eligibility criteria for each scholarship to ensure that you qualify for one or more of these.

3. Complete the essays
Use a word processing program (like Word) to respond to the essays. You will need to copy and paste your essay responses into the online application. Essays are located in Section 4 of the HOSA application. Don’t forget to spell-check your work! Please limit your responses to the designated word counts.

Essay A: In 200-300 words, what recent accomplishment has given you the greatest satisfaction? Why?

Essay B: In 200-300 words, what exciting idea or recent experience has spurred your imagination or challenged your intellect? Why?

Essay C:  Project forward for a moment: It has been 10 years since you received your highest degree (undergraduate, graduate, or professional degree). What are you currently doing, and what path did you take to get to this point? Please limit your response to 500 words.


4. Proceed to the final part of the application process.
If you have read through all of the above directions, you are now ready to complete the HOSA. Please have your OSU ID and password information ready.
